Interviewer: Uncle Billy Dunbar
Description: As a founding member of O&R, Buddy is the lead singer and guitar player. Buddy grew up listening to his dad's bluegrass band that jammed on the barn porch at the family farm. As soon as he was big enough to hold an upright bass, Buddy started sitting in with the band.
Singing in church all his life, Buddy started singing and playing bass in area southern gospel groups. After graduation from high school in 1991 he attended Middle Tennessee State University.
While at MTSU, Buddy started getting his foot in the door in Nashville recording demos for numerous songwriters and was also writing his own material.
In April 1993 he signed a development recording contract with BNA Records. In 1995 Buddy recorded a top 10 single ("Leavin' You") for Independent Radio and also met his wife Jenny, who he married in 1998. They have two beautiful kids, Olivia and Noah. O&R is an eclectic mix of 'soul/funk meets alternative bluegrass'. Playing music for us is a preference, not a necessity. We are just four buddies with completely different backgrounds (from polka to rock n roll with deep roots in bluegrass and country) who combine different talents to make the most unique combination of all music genres.
O&R personalities are eccentric and engaging and can turn a song into a story that evokes every emotion from uncontrollable laughter to heart wrenching tears. Listening to them is not an experience you want to miss out on!
O&R have been honored by sharing stages with top notch acts as Billy Currington, The Grascals, The Kentucky Headhunters, Confederate Railroad, Charlie Louvin, Roni Stoneman, Ernie Ashworth, Jeannie Seely, The Cherryholmes Family Band, and many others. |
